So for this page I realised there was quite a bit of boring exposition, so I wanted there to be a little mini-story happening alongside it so it’s not just two characters just standing and talking. I thought having a bit of a Tom and Jerry situation here helped add some humor and life to the page, so I introduced this little mouse-like creature. Will it be a recurring character? who knows! Here are some sketches of the lil creature:
A few things this week:
Went to the Philip Guston exhibit at the Tate last Sunday. Was great to see his process and thoughts about art throughout his life, and see him go from more early surrealism to abstract and then to more sequential comic-esque art.
“Probably the only thing one can really learn, the only technique to learn, is the capacity to be able to change.” - Philip Guston
Saw Crumb and Helado Negro at Hackney church, lovely stuff, love a bit of saxophone 🎷
Also watched the documentary Worlds of Ursula K. Le Guin, another artist I really admire - her ability to craft such fully realised places is something I aspire to. I’m also currently reading The Dispossessed, a book about an anarchist utopia.
