👋
Hello new subscribers! This is the first newsletter of the new year, and I’ve decided to mix it up a bit.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the structure of this newsletter and how I want to publish this comic book. Previously I’ve been releasing a page a week and written a bit about my process here. I’ve enjoyed having the weekly cadence of writing about my process and just writing in general but at the same time I don’t feel that releasing the comic page by page does it justice, and following the comic becomes hard in this format as well.
So I’m going to try something new, from now on I’m going to do a weekly process report (usually on Sundays) where I post sketches, WIP, thoughts, and writings in general. Then when it’s ready I’m going to release around (probably) 5 pages at a time. Some new pages will be coming very soon!
This will be the first weekly update. If you want to catch up on the comic, you can now read all of the published pages here.
Onto process
I’ve signed up to Wendy Mac’s GUT, for a January challenge. Been enjoying it so far, it’s good to get back to the basics of drawing (and why I got into drawing in the first place)
I want to be better at articulating my process and thoughts on my art, so reflecting on each 10-minute drawing has been very educational!
A few more things this week:
I’m back in Norway, so went to visit the Munch Museum in Oslo this weekend. I especially enjoyed the exhibition that looked at some of the parallels between Munch and Goya. As always with these types of exhibitions I enjoy seeing the sketches and works in progress more than the finished artworks.
Been listening to the podcast Behind the Bastards, specifically the 6 parter on Henry Kissinger, a thorough and often hilarious look at one of the worst people who have existed in modern times.
Finally finished reading The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Leguin. I am amazed that this book was written in the 70’s. I love the political intrigue and even when depicting a utopia she shows how easily a dream can become corrupted. It still feels incredibly relevant to our times.
